If you obey My commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
Jon 15:10-13
These are powerful and awesome words of Jesus. Everytime I read these passages I am reminded that the Church hasn’t matured into this stature of Christ. We are still operating in contentions, mistrust, unfaithfulness and disloyalty toward one another. We pick and choose what scriptures we will practice and totally disregard other scriptures that will bring life to us and others. Love is the one component that Jesus said would demonstrate to the world that we belong to Him. We call on his name, but will not obey or practice His words.
The church has become so carnal that everything we do is based on a democratic attitude. We totally disregard the move of God in our Churches, opting on our own dictates instead of the will of God for our lives. What is God’s will? It is to love one another fervently. I hear so many believers say that they don’t want to love anyone except for a select few of their own choosing. What? Jesus said to love one another, which is not a suggestion, but mandate. We are mandated to love each other because this blesses Father’s heart.
If we refuse to love our fellow members who profess Christ as Lord, that can only prove one thing and that is, we are walking in a state of rebellion and pride. Pride separates us from the True Vine, but love is the ultimate weapon for defeating the enemy. Satan can't do a thing with a Believer who loves deeply, for we are convinced and convicted to love even to the point of death. We won't give up easily on people, for we will see them as a work in progress, and our conviction to see God's glory on the earth will cause us to grab the weak and carry them. just as the military picks up it's wounded and carry them to safety, we will pick up our wounded saints and carry them to safety, as we minister to their needs. We will be willing to teach and preach even if it appears no one is listening, for we know that the angels of Heaven sees our works. We will preach to the atmospheres the goodness and love of God. We will be obedient to the mandate of Christ to love each other as He has loved us, even when we were in our messy state. We were once a bloody, dirty mess before God and His incredible loved cleaned us and forgave us. Obedience births fruit and fruit births wholeness and completeness in Him.
I choose to love everyone because Jesus chose to love me. God is a Spirit and He is the embodiment of love. This is a simple subject that few will ever succeed at. Most people refuse to love and to pour themselves out on others for fear of being hurt and taken for granted. Then there are those who are just too selfish to reach out to others. But Christ took the liberty to love us and to demonstration what love looks like, even to the point of the cross. His desire is for us to come to know the depth, width, height and breath of His infinite love.
It takes more energy to be distant, mean and offended than it does to have unconditional love for others. It takes incredible negative energy to be angry, upset or to hate someone. It does horrible things to the heart and other organs of our bodies. Negativity and bitterness distorts the face and causes headaches, depression and cancer. Love freely, it feels better. One thing I can say about love is, it is free, it is freeing, it is light, it is beautiful, it feels good because it produces joy and peace. It is better to be loved and even better to be in love. It is a win/win situation.
