But you have something even more sure than our report—the prophecies of the Old Testament, to which you do well to pay attention. Those prophecies are like a lamp shining in the darkness until the day of Christ’s coming dawns and he, as the glorious Morning Star, fills your hearts. Remember, that these ancient prophecies are not the inspired writer’s personal opinion, nor do they simply reflect the beliefs of the community of faith of which they were a part. These prophecies never had their origin in the will of man but are the product of the Holy Spirit. He revealed these thoughts to selected men and women then guided them as they used their own words in writing down the messages God gave them.
2 Peter 1:19-21 The Clear Word Bible
The year 2011, will go down in the history books as a year that came in with a bang. We have witnessed one of the most powerful earthquakes which triggered a deadly and destructive tsunami. The news continued to worsen in Japan, as the world discovered that a nucluer plant was damaged and released radiation, which contaminated the air, soil and water, with frightening news that seems to continue to worsen each day. That’s tragic news all by itself and would have made 2011 a year not to be forgotten. But the other news is the meltdown of the Muslim countries in the Middle East, as well as Africa. It is happening like a domino effect and appears as if it will continue for a while longer. The nations of the Middle East and Africa are igniting like a fire that cannot be contained. As all eyes watch Japan, the Middle East and Africa, our own problems continue to mount. From changes in the governments of this world to change in Church leadership, we are witnessing unrest and shaking. There are more shakings to come, for everything that can be shaken, will be shaken and loosed to its very foundation, so that which is holy will be what will remain.
But these things were prophesied by the great prophets of old. There will be shakings and unrest in the nations and the New Testament speaks of the Great Falling Away. One thing we will all get use to and that is change. Everything changes; seasons, times, ages, minds and nations but the one thing that will remain the same is our Lord and Savior. For God roars, “I AM God and I change not.” Thank you, Jesus for that sound promise to your people. You will never change, for you are faithful in all your ways.
So, in the midst of all this change, we need to change a few things too. We need to change from slumber to alertness. We need to change from being apathetic to energetic about life. We need to be aware that our enemy roams around like a lion seeking whom he may devour. He is looking for those who are spiritually asleep or spiritually weak in nature. There should be expectancy in our lives for the truths of God and to operate in Kingdom power.
The things that are happening on the earth should not catch the Believer by surprise for these things have been written by men filled with the Spirit of God. These old prophets desired to know and experience the things we are freely given and enjoy in the Church of today. They only had a glimpse of the things they wrote about, but our eyes are witnessing them daily.
There were no satellites, cell phone, cable news or the like. These prophets wrote by the unction of the Holy Spirit of the things that were to come. Whether they received the words by being in the Spirit or unction, we know that they were all under the instruction of the Holy Spirit and sometimes, they wrote what they really did not understand. Daniel knew what he was writing and inquired of the Lord, when would these things be, and was instructed to seal up the Book until the time of the end. These old prophets were anointed to prophesy as many of us are anointed to prophesy today. We are blessed (or maybe not) to witness world events as they happen. Breaking News happen daily and we are priviledge to get a seat, up front and personal, in the privacy of our homes so that we can fervently pray for the victims of these events as they happen.
God called the Church to prayer in January and February, along with fasting. He is getting us ready for the things that will soon come on the earth that will be so shocking that without the comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit, our hearts would fail us. Help us, Father to stand strong and courageous as we see the day approaching.
As the Holy Spirit revealed the mind of God to the prophets of old, so is He continuing to reveal the mind of God to the prophets and apostles of today. We know when something earth shaking is getting ready to happen because the Holy Spirit reveals these things, for God does nothing until there is revelation to His anointed ones. These are not words of the will of man but of the revelation of God. Yes, there are those who will speak a word out of their flesh for many reasons but we should only speak what has been unctioned by the Holy Spirit. Praise God for He alone is faithful.
May the Lord bless you and keep you, May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace. Amen
