For by grace given me, I say to everyone of you; do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. Romans 12:3
But when you are invited, take the lowest place so that when your host comes, he will say to you, friend, move up to the better place. Luke 14:10
When I read my precious granddaughter's t-shirt, I had to laugh. I told her that I had to get a picture of her shirt. The reason being is that I know so many important and famous people, at least in their own minds.
The Lord really tried to help us out by telling us this truth to keep us from making a fool of ourselves. Yet, we can have knowledge in one area and think we hold all the wisdom and knowledge of the universe. No one knows it all except God. We want to tell everyone how they should live with no control over our own life.
You can almost see the pompous thoughts in some folks head. Do one thing in ministry that they don't understand and they will automatically think you don't know what you're doing...and usually you don't, you're just following the lead of the Holy Spirit and it works.
I know there are very important people in the secular realm or those who think they are, but the Church has far too many as well. Jesus knew this firsthand, when the people whispered that he was allowing a woman to touch him who is unclean and that he didn't realize what kind of woman she was. He knew, believe me; He knew.
We have very famous or important people all over the Church and I pray that the spirit of pride and arrogance be broken. Some ministers will not step foot in a prison, because it's beneath them...what? Greeting the members after church? No way; once their sermon is finished, they are off somewhere else so that they won't become contaminated by the people they just preached to. What's really going on? Oh yeah, I forgot, they are very famous even if no one know it.
It's not just leadership, it's human nature gone wild. Let's get back to humility and loving one another; being able to be touched by people and touching them. Love one another with a fervent love. Esteem others as you esteem yourself. As one of my Pastors used to say, the only star in the building is Jesus. Amen to that.
