Stand for What is Right

I give a shout out to State Representative Jenny Horne, for her act of bravery to stand before her peers and the world to argue that the confederate flag be removed as South Carolina's state flag.  Being a native of South Carolina, the flag was just a part of her southern heritage and history that most southerners are proud of.  The Confederate flag was a symbol of the South's glory days to one group, but a symbol of evil and hatred to another.

I'm writing this not to go into the atrocities that this flag stands for in the hearts of Black people in this country,  nor the southern pride of white people, but rather the bravery and courage of this woman, State Representative Jenny Horne, a descendent of Jefferson Davis, who was the President of the Confederate States during the Civil War, who came to understand that it is a symbol of hate to the Black citizens of her state and America.

There was another woman; Brittany Newsome, a Black woman who climbed the flagpole and physically removed the flag while praying, knowing that she would be arrested after it's removal.

These are courageous women who stood against the tide to publicly stand for their beliefs.  State Rep. Horne attended the funeral of the Massacred Nine, who were gunned down by a demon possessed man and what she saw was the grief of good people and what she heard was forgiveness and grace.  No doubt, God used this to change her; she understood the plight of her peers and constituents who wanted this symbol of hatred removed.

Two thoughts come to my mind about this long standing fight over the Confederate flag issue.  I  am so reminded of the Judge and Prophetess Deborah in the Book of Judges, who told Barak that she would go to war with him after he asked her to go into battle, but it would be noted in history that the battle would be won by the hand of a woman.   Deborah the Judge got the credit and Jael, the one who took King Sisera down by killing him in her tent was a simple woman.  As prophesied, the battle was won by the hands of a woman and so was the long standing battle over the Confederate flag.

Most who embrace the Confederate flag profess to be Christians.  Professing Christians who are in idolatry.  They won't do the right thing because they are blinded by their sin of idolatry.  "It's our heritage and  history" they scream to state their ;rights" to see the Confederate flag blowing in the wind.  The Nazi's felt they had the right to boldly display the swatiza,, no matter what it represented or who it offended and by the way, they professed Christianity as well.  These folks have no idea what Christianity is about or who Jesus Christ was or what He came to earth to do.

The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 8:13, Therefore, if what I eat causes my brothers or sisters to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again so that I will not cause them to fall.  Paul was saying that he will never eat certain foods again if it offends others. That's love!  If your idol offends or hurt others, get rid of it.  We should have no other God before the true and living God.  If we are to be with God for eternity, we have to get rid of our useless god's that were made and fashioned by the hand of man.

If you are going to do great things, get out of the box.  Stand for that which is right, honorable and good.  People may not celebrate you, but God will.
