For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. Gal 5:17
We who are spiritual are seemingly always on a crash course with our flesh. For example, the Spirit of God reminds me that I shouldn't put potato chips, cookies and coke into my body for these things are killers to me but my flesh says, "aw, go on, one more time won't hurt you and this will be the last time you do it". The war is on for I know I shouldn't eat these things but my mind began to remind me of how "good" they will taste and I sometime lose the battle. Some may say, that's not a real problem but for millions of people suffering from health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, these foods can be life threatening.
On a more serious note, so many in the Church are dealing with sin issues that will lead to defeat and despair. If we can only remember that sin will take us further than we want to go and will keep us longer than we want to stay. So why is there such a pull to do that which the Spirit of God is calling you away from? Because sin is pleasurable but it is only pleasurable for a season.
We must make a conscious effort daily not to fall into sin issues like lying, stealing, gossiping, slandering, discord, anger, sexual sins, perversions or hatred. We must get into the presence of the Lord to be strengthened for the temptations that will face us. The Lord our God is our strength. We must take the time to get into His presence and become intimate with Him so that we will have the power to resist the wiles of the enemy. We have been created to take authority over the works of darkness. We have been created to take authority over every evil spirit and evil thought. As we cast down every thought and imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God we find ourselves in a place of holiness and righteousness before Him. Our faith is increased and we move into a place of humility before the Lord.
To God be the glory,
Apostle Cynthia Brooks
