Seeing is Believing

The Lord is my light and salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? Psalms 27

I have always loved this psalms, but as I sat pondering it this morning, the thought came to me that many in the Church are not living in the fullness of God and not enjoying His glory. He is our light and our salvation, and His glory or light renews us daily. We live in His light and the world is blessed by His light in us. Just as the sun shines brightly and emits it light onto the moon, we should emit the light of God in our lives and in our words to bring Him glory. We have no light of our own, what the world sees is His light in and on us.

When we began to put things before Jesus and neglect Him, a spiritual total eclipse begins in our lives and we don't even realize it. We begin to function on what was (past blessings or victories) instead of what is now, because our "now" has been obscured by fear. We may have walked in His glory and spoke of His goodness, but now we are only focusing on the darkness or the problems and worries that are impacting our lives. We have stopped walking by faith, which is evident by our dialog of our fears and the things we worry about. Our faith has turned to doubt and we find ourselves groping in the darkness much like those who don't know the Lord. We experience a total eclipse of the spirit and can't see the Lord.

In the natural a total eclipse is when the moon pass directly in front of the sun and blocks the light from the earth. This is what is being done in the hearts and vision of the Believer who has allowed things, worries, people and the cares of this life come between them and God. Our vision is obscured by the object that we have allowed to come between God and us. This distraction, (the moon) has placed itself between the Believer (the earth) and God (the sun) making it impossible to see God or to focus on His word.

There are times that we think we are still in the light, because we can still see a glimmer of light, but we are actually living off of the diamond ring effect, the last bright flash of sunlight that is emitted from the sun before total darkness. Since we can still see some light, we believe that we are alright, but we are actually only living off of the last rays of His glory.

Remove that thing that has become an obstruction between the Lord and you. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire; so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Rev 3:18

God's precious Word is the eyesalve to open our blind eyes. If we have allowed the cares of this world to blind us and cause us to grope in the dark with fear and doubt, we must return to the Bible and fill our hearts with the Word of God. We can't be just hearers of His Word, but doers of the Word to increase our faith; our spiritual vision. Our words must reflect faith and not be used to curse ourselves. We speak words of fear and we receive what we say. Out of the issues of the heart, the mouth speaks. What's in our hearts? If we believe God, we will speak those things that He has spoken of us to bring life and light.

I watched Mr. Wallenda of the famous Wallenda family, walk across the Grand Canyon on a tightrope on the Discovery Channel and I thought it was crazy for him to even attempt such a dangerous feat. He comes from generations of tight rope walkers, but this was a personal dream of his to cross the canyon despite the dangerous height and winds. I was amazed how focused he was on God when the winds began to whip up around him and a helicopter flew around him; this man had some major distractions, but he was totally focused on Jesus and the cable. Even though he looked down a few times, he refocused his vision back on God. Openly praising God for all the world to see and hear, he glorified God in his feat. He placed people of faith on the other side of the gorge ledge that he was going to arrive on (this brother placed faith in front of him) and focused on Jesus, who was with Him saying, "Jesus, you are the Rock of my salvation," while walking on a cable. That thing blessed me so much as I sat praying for him to be successful.

Perfect example of our personal walk. We may be walking on a spiritual tight rope of bills, sickness, lack or relationship problems with storm winds whipping around us and obstacles whipping up further winds, (helicopter/Satan)but if our eyes are fixed on Jesus, praising Him along the way, we will reach our destination and purpose. Mr. Wallenda didn't allow the helicopter nor the winds to become an obstruction between God and himself, he forged forward with his eyes firmly focused on God. It may look bad for you, but pursue anyway, praising God as you go.

Mr. Wallenda blessed me when he was almost at the end of his trial...he ran to the finish line. It wasn't over, but in his heart, it was. He could see the end of the cable and when he finished, he kissed the ground and gave glory to God. He turned around, weeping, looking back over where he had come from and I know he worshipped God for bringing him over. The reporter interviewed his family to give him time to reflect on his victory. The scene reminded me of the song, "How I Got Over". I blessed God with him. Look back at your trials and remember when and how God brought you over; it will bring you a greater level of faith that God will do it again.

Rub eyesalve into your eyes and get back up. Place people of faith around you and finish the race. You already see the finish line for it is written in God's Word...so run to the finish line and praise God along the way. Pursue God and live the abundant life. God, your light will help you for He is your salvation.
